Gaining height - a brief update on the new Wellington Tower build
During November we’ve seen the tower quickly gaining height. The structural steel frame for the first three floors is in place and over the next month the focus will be on getting levels four to six up.
I’m glad to be able to report that tower was undamaged by the November 14 earthquakes. One of the key safety features of the tower is that it is base isolated, which provides protection during seismic events. The construction team finished installing 13 base isolators within the tower foundations in July and these functioned as they should during the quakes.
This month, two of the big concrete tsunami walls (shear walls) on the ground floor were formed and poured and the remaining four are underway.
Below are a couple of recent photos from the site.
