What inspired you to apply for the STAR programme at Airways Training?
My tutor recommended me to apply and give it a go, as I really wanted some practical work experience. The role was totally different to what I was used to - I had no aviation knowledge and was quite curious to learn about it in a professional environment. On inquiry, I learnt of Airways' focus on technology and this really appealed to me.
What was it like working for Airways Training?
Awesome! From being a student with no work experience, by working for a kiwi company, I have learnt a lot, especially about getting along with people from different backgrounds with different specialisations and personalities. Everyone is really open and friendly.
During my time at Airways, I have worked on a variety of projects, including developing brochure designs, rebranding products, mocking-up websites, creating animations, creating videos and becoming an in-house photographer. I love the work as it varies a lot and I enjoy working on different projects.
What did you take from your experience at Airways Training?
With this programme, I have learnt more about myself and have become more aware of my strengths and weaknesses.
It was great for me to learn what it really is like in a workplace, as it is totally different from study. When you are in an actual workplace you have to be aware of what your customer wants, and closely follow instructions. I’ve learnt how to balance my creativity with meeting customer requirements. They are also really open to new ideas and welcome my input into taking a concept to final design.
What are you doing now?
I have completed my diploma at Yoobee School of Design, and I have been offered a job at Airways Training as an in-house Graphic Designer.
