An Olympian in our midst
We’re proud to be getting behind our own Natasha Hansen in the run up to the Rio Olympic Games.
As well as being one of New Zealand’s leading female track cyclists, Natasha is an air traffic controller.
She has been on a record breaking run this year.
Natasha picked up two New Zealand records at the Elite and U19 Track National Championships in Cambridge in February, claiming the women's 500m time trial in 34.209 seconds and then clocking 10.893 seconds in the flying 200m.
At the UCI track cycling world championships in London earlier this month, Natasha qualified sixth fastest for the women’s 200m time trial. This was her best ever international result.
Natasha is currently on a one year sabbatical from her role at the Hamilton Tower to give her the freedom to focus on her Olympic bid.
Airways is committed to seeing our people succeed in in all arenas, not just in their work lives, and providing this time away from work is the best thing we can do to bolster her chances of success.
Natasha started her career as an Air Traffic Controller in Invercargill but transferred to Hamilton in 2015 to be close to the velodrome in Cambridge, HQ for New Zealand cycling.
She has a strong following from us here at the Hamilton Tower, and from her Airways colleagues around the country, whether they’re attending her events or sending messages of support on Facebook and Twitter.
Good luck Natasha, we’re behind you all the way.
