Welcome to the TUG 2008 Conference website, and a warm greeting from Airways New Zealand, your hosts for the Conference. Planning is well underway for a memorable conference and, though New Zealand may seem somewhat 'off the beaten track' for many, the trip will be well worth it.
The Conference proper is over four days, from Monday 17 March to Thursday 20 March 2008, located in Christchurch, the largest city of New Zealand's South Island. Christchurch is also where Airways New Zealand bases its main centre of operations. March is autumn (or 'fall') in New Zealand, and temperatures can vary from around 6-12 degrees celcius at night to around 15-20 during the day. Cold fronts are known to wander up from the deep South occasionally, so it pays to 'pack warm' just in case.
TUG 2008 will incorporate a full 'Partners Programme' - we'd love you to bring your partner, Christchurch and the local region has some breathtaking scenery and much to do and see.
Following the last day of the Conference, a unique surprise is in store. Conference delegates will travel to Queenstown, one of the most picturesque little alpine towns in the world, where a day excursion is planned to visit the remarkable airshow 'Warbirds over Wanaka'. The sight of immaculately restored vintage and modern aircraft flying low over the Wanaka airfield is something to behold. Situated in the middle of the Southern Alps, where much of the 'Lord of the Rings' movies were filmed. Wanaka is a ski and alpine lake resort which has become famous for its airshow set against the backdrop of snow-crested alpine ranges.
We're sure you'll enjoy your visit. The conference programme is shaping
up to be informative, interesting and thought provoking. The opportunity
to see some of New Zealand's world-renowned scenery is just an added bonus!
We're looking forward to seeing you here in March 2008.
