CURRENT VACANCIES

What the team does

Analyses, designs, implements, and releases small, medium, and huge developments to New Zealand's national Air Traffic Control system, SkyLine.

In addition to the New Zealand ATC system, we support an ATC system in China, and are currently involved with one in Kazakhstan.

About SkyLine Air Traffic Management (ATM) System

Background
SkyLine was provided to New Zealand as part of a partnership between Airways and Lockheed Martin. The Airways SkyLine software team performed half the considerable amount of work required to get the base Lockheed Martin product to a stage where it could replace NZ's previous Thales Aircat Air Traffic Control system (at 15% of the cost to New Zealand of what comparable leading systems have cost similar countries).  We have the complete source code of this system, and are one of the few places in the world where you can work on real ATC software in partnership with the controllers.

How it works:
SkyLine uses radar and other tracking data, synthesises this into a single aircraft target, correlates it with flight data sent from airlines, and displays this to air traffic controllers in New Zealand's prime ATC Centre in Christchurch (where the team resides) and to other Centres and ATC Towers around the country, and world-wide via www.flightexplorer.com.

Where do we work?

The SkyLine software team works in Airway's main Air Traffic Control Centre, in Technology Park, Burnside, Christchurch (near, but not in the Christchurch Airport). The office is shared with a team of Air Traffic Controllers whom we work in partnership with, and who provide requirements and testing expertise.

The View

View from the office window, over nearby houses and Russley Golf course, towards Christchurch Airport.

Languages & OS:
C++ and Java on Red Hat Enterprise Linux and on HP Tru64 UNIX ( due to be phased out over the next two years)

Current projects

CAM (Collaborative Arrivals Manager): Allowing Airlines to see and manipulate in real-time Flow Control (Air Traffic Control slot allocation of aircraft into traffic-limited airports) via a  browser over the Internet.

Re-hosting: Porting the NZ SkyLine from Tru64 to Red Hat Enterprise Linux, renewing all hardware, and improving other aspects of the architecture.
