Relocation

Airways provides relocation assistance to successful applicants. We reimburse, on production of receipts, expenses incurred in relocating to NZ up to a maximum value. This typically covers most if not all of a controller's relocation expenses.

Airways will also assist, where possible, with other issues related to relocation (e.g. information about New Zealand, family support, school selection, banking contacts, temporary accommodation, and peer contacts).

Training

On arrival in New Zealand you will be in training for approximately the first 6 months. This compromises of:

Administration Week

This is a week comprising of administration tasks, orientation to Airways and New Zealand in general.

NZ Conversion Course:

This is a 4-week technical training course run at our Training Centre in Christchurch. Depending on the vacancy, there may be an extra week for initial unit simulator training. Following the successful completion of this course the controller will obtain a New Zealand ATC Trainee Licence. To meet the requirements of the New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority, this course includes examinations and after hours study is expected.

Unit Training:

This is a period of on-the-job training to gain validation on the Unit. This is typically a period of 5-6 months.

Controllers are paid whilst they are training and the remuneration is increased once they validate on their unit.

Please Note:

Failure to complete the training within a reasonable time frame will mean that the controller is unable to fulfil the requirements of the position for which they have been employed. Therefore Airways, at its discretion, may terminate employment.
