Introducing Total Approach

Total Approach™ reduces the time, money and resource needed to train Approach radar controllers while improving the quality of training and the chances of successful completion.

Training an Approach radar controller is one of the most specialised and complex tasks an Air Navigation Service Provider will ever undertake. The level of precision, competence and expertise required to bring a trainee into the operational environment to complete on-the-job training is considerable.

Total Approach™ is a completely new concept in Approach radar training. Comprising a CD-ROM containing 20 hours of DVD-style lesson content and 100 hours of ultra-realistic simulator exercises using voice-recognition technology, Total Approach™ provides Approach radar trainees with a total immersion learning environment.

Using Total Approach™, training times can be reduced considerably, since training can be done in private or unsupervised time, and instructors and system simulators are replaced with a personal computer. The result is a significant reduction in the cost of training. Total Approach's standardization of training means that every trainee receives identical training. With its unlimited practice availability, Total Approach™ will increase the efficiency of training, whether it is integrated into existing training programs or used as a stand alone training tool.

Total Approach™ offers each trainee over 100 hours of exercises that can be repeated as often as the trainee likes, which can be interrupted, replayed, or fast forwarded at will, and at their own pace. In simple terms, Total Approach™ is a highly effective, flexible learning environment within a 'live', low-cost simulator.

The Total Approach™ to Approach Radar Training

The secret of success behind Total Approach™ approach radar training lies in the functionality offered by Total Approach's modular, computer-based versatility. The only hardware required is a dedicated PC or laptop. Conventional restrictions on Approach radar training such as instructor availability, system simulator availability, human factor variations in lesson technique as a result of instructor interpretation, and limited practice time no longer apply.

The training principles behind Total Approach™ have been developed by leading Approach radar training specialists to conform to a highly accessible, structured and modular 'building block' method of learning. Trainees learn the 'theory' in their own time at their own pace. If they get lessons wrong in practice, they can rewind the lesson to the beginning or to any other pre-determined point and practise it until they get it correct. Learning is reinforced by practice, and mistakes become lessons which the trainee incorporates into their competency development. Mistakes and lessons learnt in private do not have the same stigma attached as may be the case in a more 'public' environment, thereby reducing trainee stress.
