bullet Airways International

Today's aviation industry is undergoing change on an unprecedented scale. Our skies are becoming more demanding places in which to work. Technology is becoming increasingly sophisticated, requiring air navigation services (ANS) organisations to stay with the play or risk losing the game. Financial imperatives are driving governments to reconsider their place in the ANS business, to seek new investment and commercially experienced private sector partners.

bullet Flight Inspection Services Capability

General

Airways is a leading air navigation services provider which is committed to the industry and leads innovation and development in this sector. Our wide experience in air traffic control, air navigation systems, air traffic procedures and airport operational services, is such that we are confident that Airways can provide superior value, attention to detail and quality outcomes delivered to a high professional standard and proven performance, backed by Airways’ commitment to total customer satisfaction.

Airways offers ICAO compliant, independent, flight inspection services to calibrate radio and visual navigation aids and radar systems, and for validating instrument flight procedures. Airways International deploys a skilled specialist flight inspection engineer with the flight crew, to capture and analyse data, and report findings; the engineer can also provide on-site advice in relation to measures that might be considered to optimise performance of the respective navigation facilities being inspected.

The flight inspection unit comprises a number of flight inspectors: these inspectors are also experienced navigation aids engineers, while the navigation procedures flight validators are all qualified and trained pilots.  The flight inspectors and flight validators are trained and their competency certified under a fully-documented ISO 9001-compliant process.

Airways’ experts are consequently able to provide Flight Inspection related consulting, including helping to develop a customer’s own flight inspection capability, (including assistance with customer aircraft selection & supply if required, aircraft equipage, and flight inspection engineer & aircrew training), as well as independent problem solving of issues concerning navaid operation/accuracy, and aircraft instrument operation/accuracy.

Airways Flight Inspection Service Differentiators

Airways flight inspection engineers are also experienced navigation aid specialists so whilst they are on-site they are also able to provide additional benefits to our customers. When compared to other flight inspection service providers, our customers have commented favourably upon Airways’ ability to provide:

  • on the spot certification results and certificate
  • simple to understand results
  • on-the-spot interpretation of any errors found during the flight inspection facilitating immediate correction by the Customers ground engineers and restoration of the facility into service before aircraft departure
  • a reduced FI time and aerodrome disruption through use of the automated & integrated system
  • a methodology to reduce the periodicity of FI requirements based on past outcomes and therefore reduce the overall cost of certification,
  • a full range of flight inspection services,
  • a full knowledge from the different perspectives of: pilot, navaid engineer, FI Engineer, and flight procedures designer.
  • The ability to fit out and calibrate a local aircraft for Flight Inspection operation in situations where use of Airways prime aircraft is not economically viable.

In the early days, Airways International’s business was grown on the success of repeat, and flow-on, work received as a direct consequence of provision of Airways flight inspection services. As customers became exposed to the wide range of knowledge inherent in Airways’ flight inspection engineers, they requested Airways to provide assistance with other problems and opportunities they were having. In many cases, Airways’ flight inspection engineers identified issues and opportunities for cost savings and other improvements that the customers were not even aware were possible, thereby adding considerable value beyond the contracted services role.
