Collaborative Arrivals Manager (CAM)
Good for people, great for the planet
Since its introduction into New Zealand’s main trunk airports in 2008, Airways Collaborative Arrivals Manager (CAM) has saved our airline customers
- 20.5 million kgs of fuel
- $29.5 million in fuel costs
- 61.5 million kgs of CO2 emissions
CAM is an online tool that enables airlines to work collaboratively together – and with Airways – to schedule departures and arrivals to avoid congestion at various NZ airports. It means airlines can move their aircraft around to best suit their fleet and their customers’ needs, resulting in better on-time performance and reduced fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions because holding patterns in the air and engine idling on the ground are significantly reduced.
CAM has changed the whole operating environment of domestic passenger flights in New Zealand. In the past year, it has reduced airborne delays into Auckland and Wellington from an average of over 28,000 minutes per month (2007) to less than 5,000 minutes per month (2010 YTD). CAM has been awarded two IT Industry Awards, recognising it as an innovative, leading edge use of technology.
“CAM is an outstanding piece of technology and one that, thanks to Airways, is making Air NZ’s mission to be the ‘greenest’ airline in the world possible. Through innovation and collaboration, Airways has developed new tools and processes that have resulted in significant savings in fuel usage and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. Other countries are now looking to us for leadership on how to implement the technology in their part of the world and in doing so, make a significant contribution to the global environment”
