Airways New Zealand consolidates at Canterbury Technology Park28 February 2006 Airways New Zealand, New Zealand's Air Traffic Control and Air Navigation Services provider, has approved plans for a major expansion of its Christchurch base at the Canterbury Technology Park. The expansion includes the purchase of land adjacent to its existing facilities, and the development of a purpose-built facility to enable Airways to relocate many of its existing Christchurch-based operations to the Technology Park. Airways' new development will inject over $11 million into the local Christchurch economy over the next two years, says Airways' Group Manager Corporate Services, Monica Davis. "The planned development will provide Airways with a single 'campus' site for its entire Christchurch operations except for the airport Control Tower. The new building will provide specific purpose-built accommodation for our training, technology development, facilities and international units which are currently housed at a number of locations around the airport. The associated advantages of having everyone in a single location are significant," said Ms Davis. "The Canterbury Technology Park provides Airways with several natural advantages so the decision to expand there was an obvious one. We have been running short of space for some time now, and our staff will welcome the additions of a larger cafeteria and more meeting rooms which are currently in short supply." "Airways is a significant employer in the Canterbury region, employing 535 people, and it's important to us that our staff who provide Air Navigation Services to New Zealand's domestic airspace are able to benefit from the functionality of a purpose-built facility and being together in a single location," said Ms Davis. The plan involves a stand alone, two-storey extension to an existing Airways building.. ENDS For Further Information please contact: Corporate Communications Manager
