We continue to invest in new technology that enhances safety. Recently, we installed leading edge ADS-B surveillance to create a multilateration coverage area of 220,000 square kilometres across some of New Zealand’s most mountainous and remote terrain.
For the first time ever, Airways and airlines now have radar-like coverage down to ground level or low levels across much of the South Island and surrounding ocean. This improves both safety and flight efficiency in a region with extreme terrain and weather conditions, which has experienced significant traffic growth. Our ADS-B technology has the potential to deliver $2 billion worth of benefits to the New Zealand aviation industry over the next 20 years.
The deployment of this equipment in New Zealand has proven so successful that we're now bringing our ADS-B technology to Tonga, with the aim of further improving the safety of airspace in the Pacific.
